FactoidWritten for the coronation of King George II by Handel in 1727, this work has been sung at the coronation of every monarch since. Zadok was a curious choice as the subject. No one had ever really heard of him although he is briefly mentioned in the bible as the man who annointed King Soloman, but is more known from texts about him in the Dead Sea Scrolls, where he is called 'The Teacher of Righteousness'.
