The story behind the sound
Rob is a composer, music producer and multi-instrumentalist based at Strongroom Studios, London. Technically and creatively versatile, as a bass player and percussionist he enjoys writing music with a strong rhythmic element and is a MIDI / synth programmer of over 25 years experience. A graduate of the Tonmeister course in music and sound recording and former director of Sir George Martin’s AIR Studios, Rob is also an extensively experienced engineer, known for his large scale orchestral mixing. He has worked for artists and composers including Anna Meredith, Modeselektor, DJ Yoda, Max Richter, Joe Kraemer, John Altman and many others. As a musician he has played on recordings for Portishead, M.I.A, and DJ Yoda and in numerous bands, most recently with Balkan Brass group The Trans-Siberian March Band. Released 2018, Rob composed 31 pieces for “The Caves Sessions” – three albums recorded in Chislehurst Caves (a network of 20 miles of tunnels with a natural 30 second reverb), featuring musicians including soprano Grace Davidson, percussionist Paul Clarvis and Tim Garland on bass clarinet.
