- This work was written by the priest Gregorio Allegri (1582-1652) for use in the Sistine Chapel. At one time, performing it outside that venue was punishable by excommunication. Mozart heard it once as a young boy, memorised the entire work and wrote it out. The title translates as 'Have Mercy on me".
