Factoid Diwali is the most popular Indian festival. It signifies the return of Rama (an avatar of the Hindu supreme-god, Vishnu) after 14 years' banishment. To welcome his return, diyas (ghee lamps) were lit and it is a tradition that remains to this day signifying the victory of light of darkness. Diwali is also celebrated in Sikhism, Jainism and Buddhism.
