FactoidBritish boffin, Harry Chamberlin, came up with the concept for the instrument we now know as the Mellotron in 1946. Looking like a cross between a home organ and a sideboard, the Mellotron is an electro-mechanical instrument which produces sound by playing pre-recorded lengths of analogue tape whenever a key is pressed. The huge, ethereal string sound on this track comes from the Mellotron. Listen to mix 4 for the full Mellotron experience.
