FactoidThe repeating chimes in this piece are a custom-built steel tongue drum called a Bütone, played with soft mallets. The scale of the drum is all the black notes of the piano plus C naturals. The frame drum was put through a sub-bass synthesiser and model of a nuclear power station cooling tower.
