The story behind the sound
Born in the San Francisco Bay Area, Devin Powers all-but grew up in recording studios, producing, co-writing and mixing a multitude of local bands. As word of his prowess spread, Devin was headhunted by The Who’s John Entwistle to write, co-produce and perform live with his band The Rock, featuring Zak Starkey. Devin also wrote and performed with Lee Rocker of The Stray Cats, sharing the stage with greats as Willie Nelson, Leon Russell, and Waylon Jennings. In 1997, Devin’s own band The Vents were signed to Universal Records, and their critically-acclaimed album Venus Again resulted in tours with Radiohead, Foo Fighters, Matchbox 20, Wilco, Smash Mouth, Sugar Ray, Cake and The Dandy Warhols. In 1999, Universal Television called Devin to bring his sound to TV. A disruptive element, Devin was one of the first composers to unleash punk power chords and thrashing guitars solos across TV music, forever leaving his imprint on the sound of modern TV worldwide. For the past 23 years, Devin’s production collective Powers Music Group has been the go-to for world class media producers, writing scores and themes for over 800 TV shows and films, and receiving multiple PMA Mark Awards, SESAC and ASACAP Awards and an Emmy. In 2017 Devin launched a new theatrical trailer label, Synapse Trailer Music, along with a new record label, Big Vox Records. His custom sound design can be heard on promotional trailers for Marvel’s Wakanda Forever.
