FactoidThe tarantella is named after the tarantula spider whose bite - according to legend - could only be cured by frenetic dancing. The music played for the cure, like the dance itself, became known as tarantella. The Tarantella Napoletana, written by Gioachino Antonio Rossini (1792 -1868), is probably the most famous of all.
