FactoidInspired by the legend of Chang’e, who drinks an elixir of immortality and drifts up to the moon becoming the Chinese goddess of the moon. Her husband, Hou Yi, remains behind on Earth as a mortal and the two tragically separated. The music opens with a sad lullaby and transforms into a nostalgic love theme. The piece ends with the pained wailing of the moon goddess above the tragic love theme of the star-crossed lovers.
