FactoidThe bandoneon (accordion-like) became the signature instrument for tango, originating in Germany as a substitution for the organ at religious processions. Somehow, it ended up in brothels and bars throughout Buenos Aires and Montevideo at the beginning and middle of the twentieth century, becoming a symbol for tango.
