The story behind the sound
South-Londoner Robbie Redway teamed up with friend Harry Agius (also known as Midland) to form AKASE, contributing thoughtful lyrics, catchy hooks, and impassioned vocals. The duo met at school in Leeds, signed to !K7 Records, and released an album together. Robbie also gained more musical experience first-hand as a touring session member of alt-folk band To Kill A King. Working on his own, and sometimes under the name Rondo Mo, Robbie’s music has been compared to Caribou, LCD Soundsystem, and Bob Moses. Robbie pulls from many sources to create his sound, from ‘70s soul to ‘80s electronica to contemporary house music, but it is often his soulful voice that is the centre of his work, always pulling heartstrings.
