The story behind the sound
Hailing from Watts, California, producer Melvin Henderson first fell in love with hip hop as a young child, gravitating towards production inspired by the downtempo, soulful beats of J Dilla. He later developed his craft at the Musician’s Institute in Los Angeles, before landing his first major deal as an in-house producer with Dr Dre at Aftermath. Henderson has gone on to earn production credits on an array of major releases, from Christina Aguilera’s Liberation to Anderson Paak’s Oxnard, including one of the record’s first singles ‘Who R U?’
Inspired by the downtempo, soulful beats of J Dilla, Henderson developed his craft at L.A.’s Musician’s Institute, before landing his first major deal as an in-house producer with Dr Dre at Aftermath.
