The story behind the sound
The music of NE1 can evoke a dreamlike amble through a cityscape, at once both soulfully atmospheric, but with passing hints of possible dangerous turns just around the bend. Built on the collective talents of Robert Altman and Lyndrey Holder, NE1 also have the skills to make your head bob to a more danceable groove. Their sound is reminiscent of acts like Tricky and Goldie, but, informed by rhythm and blues, soul, and hip hop, their electronica-tinged emotional sound — a combination of synth, piano, bass, voice, and production — is unique. Despite their ambiguous and near-anonymous moniker of NE1, this music could not just be created by anyone. As you’ll soon hear, their singular style and sound is all theirs.
