The story behind the sound
Composer, guitarist, producer and performer John DeFaria’s career began in Miami Florida where he attended The University of Miami Frost school of music. After graduating John joined Gloria Estefan’s band The Miami Sound Machine and wrote Gloria’s hit ‘Get on your Feet’, for which he won the ASCAP pop award, together with an American Music award for favorite Pop/Rock group. As a musician, John has recorded on numerous movie scores such as ‘Holes,’ James Cameron’s ‘Ghosts of the Abyss,’ commercials for Direct TV and Subaru; and television shows for Lifetime, Discovery Channel, Warner Brothers Telepictures and The Oprah Winfrey show. John continues to work in film and television composing and producing tracks for The Oprah Winfrey Show, Lifetime Movies, ABC Family, MTV, New Line Cinema, ESPN, Warner Bros. Telepictures, BET Networks, Lion’s Gate Films, National Geographic Channel, UFC, Fox and CNN. John runs his production company Baobab Music and his studio behind his house in Culver City.
