The story behind the sound
Based in Madrid, Hugo Bechstein is an award-winning composer and multi-instrumentalist, working across the mediums of film and theatre. Born into a family of musicians, Bechstein’s early specialism was viola, studying first at the Conservatorio Superior de Musica de Salamanca, and later under the mentorship of Hermann Menninghaus of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra. At just 20, he was invited on tour by legendary Spanish dancer Joaquín Cortés, and spent the next four years performing at some of the world’s most iconic venues. In 2016, Bechstein relocated to the UK to study Music Production and Sound Engineering at the Abbey Road Institute, and released Reflections – his first album for Audio Network – that same year. In 2017, he was selected by Grammy-winning producer Walter Afanasieff for a unique project called ISINA, beating more than other 10,000 other candidates in the process. Bechstein’s compositions have been honoured by the UK International Songwriting Contest and London Film Festival, and most recently he was appointed Principal at the Conservatorio Elemental de Musica de Vélez-Rubio, in Almeria, Spain.
Bechstein’s previous collaborators include Joaquín Cortés and Walter Afanasieff, while his compositions have been honoured by the UK International Songwriting Contest and London Film Festival.
