The story behind the sound
Glenn Sharp is a Grammy-nominated guitarist, composer and producer based in Manchester. Having collaborated with the UK’s leading non-Western traditional artists for more than 25 years, Sharp’s creative range extends from Flamenco and Arabic music to Indian and Iranian sounds, a vast knowledge base that he utilises in his own compositions for film, TV and video games. Amongst Sharp’s expansive collection of instruments are the oud, baglama, loutar, ronroco, rabab, and mandola, while his previous collaborators include Hossam Ramzy, Nitin Sawhney and Jasdeep Singh Degun. Sharp has worked on many award-winning video game soundtracks for SEGA and was nominated for a Grammy for his flamenco guitar and composition work with Arun Shenoy. Not limited by any one style, his broad work has included projects with a focus on Latin, Indian, African, and Ancient Greco/Roman sounds. Beyond various genres, he extends his knowledge of stringed instruments to the oud, baglama, loutar, lyre, charango, and bouzouki, and maintains an impressive collection. Glenn’s compositions have been heard in film, television, and video games, and includes Ivor Novello award-winning and Grammy-nominated projects.
