The story behind the sound
Dame Evelyn Glennie has a vision - to teach the world to listen. She knows that music is one way to inspire, engage, and empower. This vision is made more poignant by the fact that this talented percussionist had to learn how to listen differently because she lost her hearing. A double Grammy award-winner, she was awarded an OBE in 1993, a Dame Commander of the British Empire in 2007, and the Companion of Honour in 2016 — and that’s some of the ninety international awards to date. Her solo recordings exceed 30 CDs and yet she also attributes her continued success as a leading commissioner of new works for solo percussion. Her vibrant work, and dynamic vision, demand a listen.
