The story behind the sound
Elías Serpa is an Los Angeles-based composer and multi-instrumentalist whose work bridges traditional Latin music and synthesiser soundscapes. His work has been featured in advertising campaigns for Nissan and Tequila Espolón, as well as for PBS’s Emmy award-winning series Artbound and over 500 episodes of primetime drama for Telemundo. Born and raised in Venezuela, Serpa fell in love with music from a young age when he started playing the cuatro. Soon after, he picked up the electric guitar and found himself in Caracas’ underground music scene as part of a ska punk band. After producing indie bands and scoring TV commercials, he relocated to Los Angeles to pursue a career in music and expand his sound palette. Currently, Elías splits his time between scoring and being COO of Voodoo Tracks, a production music library focused on crafting authentic Latin music for media, which he co-founded with veteran composer Juan Carlos Rodríguez.
