The story behind the sound

Sabals are an indie-rock duo based in Los Angeles, California. A collaboration between singer-songwriter Beth Dreiwen and producer/multi-instrumentalist Dan Bynum, their dark – often sweeping – soundscapes blend distorted guitars and reverb-laden harmonies. Inspired by icons like Tom Petty, Neil Young and Queen, L.A.-born, Idaho-raised songwriter Dreiwen has been pursuing music since high school. Meanwhile, Florida-native Bynum cut his teeth playing drums in local punk bands, before teaching himself audio engineering and relocating to L.A. to work as a live sound engineer and production manager for various touring artists and local venues. The duo first began writing collaboratively in 2010, initially recording Dreiwen’s acoustic songs before evolving into full band arrangements. More than decade on, Sabals remains a safe space in which Dreiwen and Bynum can let their creative imaginations run wild.
