The story behind the sound
Chris Hyson is a London-based multi-instrumentalist, producer and composer. Having begun his musical training at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama, Hyson achieved a Masters at the Royal Academy of Music, where he further developed his creative flair for composition. Today, his professional portfolio spans performance, composition and production. Citing Björk, Raymond Scott, James Blake, Mica Levi and Radiohead as key influences, Hyson’s music combines sun-drenched harmonies with the darker sub-tones of a melancholy that deeply enriches the musical and emotional narrative. As a producer, Hyson sits at the heart of a creative scene in London, boasting a formidable reputation for his refreshing perspective, taste and integrity. Artists who have sought Hyson out to produce their music include Alison Sudol, Frida Touray, The Magic Lantern, A Fine Frenzy and Jordan Rakei for Ninja Tune. Hyson is also one half of Snowpoet, a unique collaboration with Jazz FM Vocalist of the Year Lauren Kinsella. So far the duo have released three albums: Snowpoet, Thought You Knew and Wait for Me. Despite only recently branching out into the world of film composition, Hyson already boasts several noteworthy credits. These include scores for Richard Raymond’s ‘A Million Eyes’, ‘Pink Wall’, starring Tatiana Maslany and Jay Duplass, and ‘Castle in the Ground’, starring Neve Campbell, Alex Wolff and Imogen Poots.
