The story behind the sound
Annie grew up surrounded by music; with her grandfather playing traditional Irish music, folk is in her bones. She says that, ‘the Drury house always has music leaking through its walls.’ She started writing songs from the age of nine, and performing at eleven. Her influences include a wide range of genres, from country to pop, indie to folk, and she has a particular love for Joni Mitchell. Her lyrics are inspired by her life – whether happy or heartbroken – and she’s intrigued by electronic music. She enjoys writing instrumental music as well as songs, and is keen to move into movie scoring. The songs on her new album, Luna, ‘cover happiness, sadness, loss, grief, love and growth’.
