The story behind the sound
Amit May Cohen is a Los Angeles based composer and multi-instrumentalist best known for her colourful and eclectic approach to film and TV scoring. Amit’s diverse stylistic range is represented in her hybrid-orchestral comedy score for Disney Channel’s Zombies 2 and Zombies 3, her guitar-centric documentary co-score with Dara Taylor, 37 Words, her innovative score for the Netflix documentary short, The Dreamlife of Georgie Stone, and her work as an additional composer and/or orchestrator on projects including Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs and Shaw, The Sinner and the Australian Academy Award nominated documentary In My Blood It Runs. Originally from Israel, many of Amit’s scores have incorporated experimental elements such as bicycle chains, mouth percussion, detuned guitars, and bird sounds. Amit has a degree from Berklee College of Music and graduated from the prestigious Sundance Music and Sound Design Lab at Skywalker Ranch. She won 2nd Place in the MTNA National Composition Competition with her contemporary piece ‘Black Dawn’ in 2016, and was awarded the ASCAP Emerging Film Composer Award In 2015.
